At first, the media was really acceptive and supportive of the war; America wanted to stop all communism from spreading. It portrayed the war in a positive light and encouraged more and more people to support the war as well. However, as time progressed, people started to realize that this war wasn't as opportunistic as it first seemed, and the media picked up on that.
Photographers traveled with the American and South Vietnam troops that were engaged in the war. They captured the real meaning of the war, taking photos and videos of an unorthodox type of fighting that most Americans had never seen before: Guerrilla warfare. The many hardships that were portrayed through these images quickly changed the views of the people in America.
The My Lai massacre was an event that significantly affected American thoughts on the Vietnam War. The massacre took place in the small village of My Lai in Vietnam, and it involved the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians at the hands of the United States' army. Originally, the U.S. government tried to cover this story up, but eventually word did spread due to the accidental revelation of the Pentagon Papers, which contained classified information regarding the Vietnam War.
Reporters and newspapers covered the rallies and peace protests that soon took place; the frustrations of families in regards to the war draft were brought to light. Many of the people that participated in these peace demonstrations were of the younger American generation, and they believed that this war was unnecessary. Eventually, in 1972, U.S. troops were recalled from Vietnam.

American Public's Response to Vietnam War
The war of Vietnam and The draft for Vietnam was a big tragedy in the United States. In The beginning the American public and soldiers thought they were being sent Vietnam to fight for their country but they soon realize that the war had nothing to do with them and they were losing men for a cause that didn’t involve them. There was a big controversy with the soldiers begin there.
There were a lot of protests throughout the United States. A Major protest was Kent State. At Kent State In Kent, Ohio the National Guard from Ohio shot at students That were protesting against the war. The students were burning draft cards of men that had been called in the draft. The protesters were shot at by National Guard, it caused 4 deaths and 9 injured. Till this day it is still unknown of who told the men a the protesters or why they shot at them.
The media played a big part in this war because it was the first time people back home in The United States were able to see what was going on in the war. People were seeing firsthand what our soldiers were going through. They were seeing all the killings, and deaths that the soldiers were seeing on an everyday bases. The media was very against the war most of the media that was shown was negative and against the war.
The troops were also having a hard time with this war because there were racial issues going on between the soldiers. The black soldiers were wondering why they were fighting side-by-side with white soldiers when back home there fellow black people were getting treated like garbage by the country they were fighting .
This war caused a lot of problems between the people of the United States people and the government. This why our groups is against the war for all of the problems it caused.
